Bed and Mattress Guide

If you find yourself not sleeping well, the bed may be too old and uncomfortable. How much time we spend in bed affects durability. If the mattress is lumpy and the spring is too strong, it may be time to go shopping. As we get older, we will also change. The person who used to sleep best on a soft mattress may be better suited to a firmer mattress later in life, and vice versa. Both weight gain and weight loss affect our response to the mattress. A mattress might be the perfect choice for one person, but if two people are going to use it, they can have trouble. Studies have shown that the bed can lose 70% of its original hardness within 10 years.

How to choose a mattress?

Before buying a mattress, you need to prepare relevant information. First, determine which bed suits you best. Do you prefer a soft bed or a hard bed? Do you need a standard mattress or a foam mattress? If you are unsure, try a different type of mattress. Second, consider your budget. This is not something you want to spend money on as sleep deprivation can affect your entire day. Try to get as much budget value as possible. Finally, size is a very important factor, especially if more than one person is sleeping in the bed. Ideally, both people should be able to lie on the bed with their arms on their heads without touching each other. A bed should be 10-15 cm longer than the tallest person sleeping on that bed. Also pay attention to the height. The bottom bunk is easy to enter, but difficult to get out. High beds can be difficult to get in, especially for short people, but it’s easy to jump out in the morning.

Mattress appearance

The outside of the mattress is called a tick. Visually, choosing a “nice” mattress is really not that important, as it is usually covered. Instead, you want to make sure that the tapping sound is strong, well made, and not easy to tear. The higher size is made from woven or knitted cotton or viscose yarn material. Inexpensive mattresses are made of polypropylene or polyester. The cheapest mattresses are made of stitched or bonded fabric. Now the outdoor mattress cover made by the manufacturer has special functions such as anti-allergic, antibacterial and anti-static. They can be stain-resistant, waterproof and fire-resistant. Surprisingly, there are even mattresses that give off different scents that are conducive to a good night’s sleep.

Spring mattress

There are three basic types of spring mattresses. Continuous spring mattresses are made from a single thread woven into many springs. The springs are connected vertically. The thread is soft and the bobbin is small. This generates more responses from the mattress. Open coil mattresses are the most common mattresses. The springs are arranged horizontally and connected at the top and bottom by twisted wires. A rod that extends around the edge of the coil adds strength. The loops of the pocket sprung mattress are in the fabric cover. These springs do not work individually, but separately. As a result, the other cannot feel the movement between the partners on the same bed.

Foam mattress

Latex foam mattresses are sensitive because they are actually made of rubber juice. They are known for their durability and also have anti-allergic and anti-microbial properties. After standing up, these mattresses spring back to their original shape. The pressure is also distributed evenly. The visco-elastic or memory foam bed is made of polyurethane foam. The response speed is not as fast as latex foam mattresses, but it performs well in relieving body pressure points. This foam mattress has different densities, which makes them harder than others. The polyurethane foam bed is petroleum based. They also come in different densities and are one of the most popular foam beds.

Waterbeds are usually supported by the amount of water in the mattress. There is no pressure on the body. These beds are perfect for allergy sufferers. The fluctuation varies between beds. Some waterbeds are also equipped with heaters to maintain the bed temperature.

The futon is an Asian invention. They are usually made of multiple layers of fiber or cotton. In the UK, young people on very tight budgets are popular with young people because they can afford it. The mattress can be used on the floor, or you can buy a frame to make it more like a bed.

Box springs are simply boxes on wheels for easy movement or boxes on legs so they can be stored underneath. Coils or springs are installed on the frame of the armchair with spring edge. These are the most expensive styles.

The mattress support is usually made of wood slats that can be very flexible or tough and rigid. Wire mesh is another material used to make the support. The more rigid and cheap slats are further apart but the gap should not exceed 10cm. In addition, the wider the space between the slats, the more likely your mattress will be to wear out.

Adjustable Bases

Adjustable beds are becoming more and more popular but they are still very expensive. They make it easy to sleep or read as the bed can be raised or lowered as needed. They are also very helpful for people with medical conditions. GERD (acid reflux) patients find there is less pain sleeping in a raised position. In some situations the end of the bed raises and this can help patients who suffer from leg cramps. Most of these beds come as single beds. There are also double sized beds with the two sides independently adjustable. Some extreme adjustable beds can have up to 5 areas that can be altered. From the head to the feet and every point in between, these are considered the elite of adjustable beds. Because the mattresses are made especially to suit each bed it is best to purchase the two together.

Firm vs. Soft Mattress

Mattresses come in a wide range of solidity. From the ultra-soft to the extremely hard, it is more a matter of preference than necessity. However, there are some basic truths that hold for the majority of us. Very soft cloud-like mattresses can wreak havoc on bad backs. This is because there is very little support in a soft mattress. While hard mattresses might be better for a bad back, very hard mattresses can cause just as much trouble. It all boils down to what works best for each individual.

Mattresses for Overweight People

For those who prefer foam mattresses and are overweight consider the latex mattress or the visco elastic mattress. Because these mattresses have no springs there are no painful pressure points exacerbated by the extra weight. In addition overweight people tend to wear out spring mattresses faster than foam mattresses. When buying a foam mattress select a high-density style, as it will last quite a bit longer. Another good option for overweight people is an air mattress. Once again there are no pressure points causing pain. The firmness is easily adjusted by adding or releasing air. If an overweight person must purchase a spring mattress try to get an inner coil mattress. Their construction is perfectly suited to heavier individuals.

The Warranty

The best way to protect your mattress purchase is to make sure it comes with a warranty. A typical warranty will last between 10 and 20 years. They basically cover any flaws in the mattress. If the construction is faulty or the materials are abnormally inadequate then you should be covered. Adjustable beds, water beds and airbeds will also have warranties on the various parts such as the motor or the controls. Keep in mind the warranty will not cover the bed for normal deterioration.
